Leading UK Dance Organisations Scoop £150,000 Arts Council Award
LEADING UK DANCE ORGANISATIONS SCOOP £150,000 ARTS COUNCIL AWARD
DANCE in the North West is to get a boost after dance agencies in Greater Manchester and Liverpool scooped a share of a £150,000 arts payout.
Dance Initiative Greater Manchester (DiGM) and Merseyside Dance Initiative (MDI) were part of a consortium of four leading UK dance organisations awarded the money by the Arts Council England to support dance talent through a project called Diversifying Investment in Dance.
The bid was led by Nottingham’s Dance4 and also included East London Dance.
The funding is from the Arts Council’s Catalyst Arts: building fundraising capacity scheme, and will see the development and delivery of a two year programme of fundraising activities, ranging from individual giving to applying for sponsorship and foundations.
Deb Ashby, Director, Dance Initiative Greater Manchester said:
‘This is an incredible opportunity to work more closely with and learn from our peers and impact on the future not only of our own organisation but the future of the local and national dance community’
Karen Gallagher, MBE, Artistic Director, Merseyside Dance Initiative said:
‘Being in a position to genuinely consider how we diversify our income strands to support dance nationally is very exciting for us at MDI, made more so because of this new collaboration that not only cement the working partnership with regional partner DiGM but enable a wider reach through our national partners Dance 4 and East London Dance”.
Peter Knott, Area Director, Arts Council England, added: “We are encouraging all organisations to build their fundraising capacity to encourage individual giving and develop skills and practical fundraising knowledge. It’s great that this consortium bid will benefit the country’s already vibrant dance sector.”
Each member of the consortium already has established international reputations for supporting, producing and developing dance, yet know that to secure their future they need to make a firm commitment to diversifying their income streams. The aim of this programme is to develop the confidence and knowledge needed to develop these skills and in turn the artists and practitioners they work with across the UK’s dance sector.
