Dance is an activity for everyone and DiGM works with all sectors of the community through different projects and collaborations.

Dance and Disabled People
From 1998 -2002 DiGM ran the Enabling Dance programme, funded by the Arts for Everyone scheme. Elements of the programme included:

The Soundbeam Technology project (sound and movement for children and adults with special needs)

2 dance and disability conferences including Dancing Differently, in partnership with Foundation for Community Dance

A commission and tour of work for Dodeka Dance Company

Disability Equality Training

The Move In project with Touchdown Dance for adults with sensory impairment

Beautiful Day, a choreographic residency for disabled and non disabled dancers with CandoCo Dance Company, (which latterly became Boomerang project with InHabit Dance of Australia at the Commonwealth Games’ Cultureshock Festival)

The Living Room, a large scale performance with Salamanda Tandem, and the culmination of the 3 year Enabling Dance project.

DiGM recently facilitated a partnership project with Touchdown Dance and Manchester Learning Disability Partnership, to deliver dance in 4 day centres. We're currently working with FCD to look at hosting a disabled community dance apprenticeship from 2007, subject to funding.

Work with and by disabled people is also a priority in DiGM’s Community Grant and District Development Grant schemes
