Want to be in Manchester Day?

Dance Manchester & Walk the Plank are collaborating on a special community dance intervention in this year’s Manchester Day parade.

We are looking for up to 8 youth & adult community dance groups from across Greater Manchester to take part. This will be an opportunity for youth & community dance leaders to gain experience of parade work, working with national choreographer Jeanefer Jean-Charles.

Group leaders will need to be available to attend all the creative development & planning sessions with Jeanefer Jean-Charles & then teach their groups the arising dance material & rehearse them in the intervening weeks.

What is Manchester Day?
Manchester Day is an annual event that celebrates everything great about the city. It is a day for families, residents and visitors to get together and celebrate all things Mancunian that have made Manchester one of the world’s most iconic cities. Last year over 60,000 people enjoyed the sunshine and watched the parade as it snaked its way through the city centre. Over 2,000 people participated in Manchester Day 2016, including 100 Manchester charities, community groups and companies who transformed the city centre into an amazing party!
Who is Jeanefer Jean-Charles?
Jeanefer is a Mass Movement Director, Choreographer and Creative Consultant with over 20 years’ experience of devising, creating, facilitating and directing dance and movement for performance.
Jeanefer’s credits include: London 2012 Olympics, The Queen’s Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace, the First World Record Breaking Big Dance in Trafalgar Square for the Mayor of London, Big Dance & the BBC.
